How can you spot a genuine imported Maltesers pack versus one that has been refilled or relabelled locally?

When your Maltesers arrive, examine the external packaging carefully for signs of quality that only the original factory can provide, such as crisp printing, even colour distribution across the entire surface, and packaging edges that are perfectly sealed without gaps or loose corners. Genuine imported packs feature a manufacturing date and best-before date printed directly onto the cardboard during production, not added later with a sticker, and these dates should be clear, perfectly aligned, and use the factory's standard font and spacing throughout the entire message.

Inside the pack, the malt balls themselves should be uniform in size and weight, each one covered evenly with milk chocolate that shows no signs of blooming, discolouration, or uneven coating, and they should roll freely without sticking to one another or to the interior bag. If you notice that the plastic inner lining appears to have been opened and resealed, or if the balls are compressed together as though they have been stored improperly, or if the chocolate coating looks patchy or greasy, these are signs that the pack may have been tampered with after importation and you should report this immediately upon delivery without opening it further.

What is the correct way to enjoy these malt balls and how often should you have them?

Maltesers are designed as a treat to be enjoyed occasionally rather than as a daily food, and the 150-gram size is intended for personal consumption over several days or as a small sharing portion among two or three people during a casual gathering or movie night. Open the pack only when you are ready to eat from it, take out a small handful at a time, and reseal the inner plastic bag tightly after each time you reach in, ensuring that the malt balls remain protected from moisture and air exposure which can soften them over time and affect their texture.

The balls are meant to be eaten as they come straight from the pack without any preparation, and they work best when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and away from sources of heat such as kitchens or windowsills where temperature fluctuations can damage the chocolate coating. Most people consume a small portion of this pack over the course of two to four weeks depending on their preferences, and once opened, the quality of the balls gradually decreases after about ten days, so do not expect the same texture and taste if you leave the pack partially open for more than two weeks.

What should a first-time buyer expect when they open a genuine Maltesers pack for the first time?

When you first open your pack and remove the inner plastic bag, you will notice a distinctive sweet aroma of malt and milk chocolate that should be inviting and clean, with no sour or musty smells that would indicate age or improper storage conditions during the import journey. The malt balls inside will feel relatively light in your hand because of their honeycomb centre, which is the defining characteristic of this product, and when you bite into one, you should experience a slight crunch as the chocolate shell gives way before the lighter malt centre dissolves on your tongue, creating a contrast between smooth chocolate and the delicate malt flavour.

The interior of the pack should have some loose balls and some that may be touching but definitely not fused together, and the chocolate coating on each ball should appear uniform and glossy without cracks or separation from the centre, though a very slight dusty appearance is normal and does not indicate a quality problem. If you are unfamiliar with this type of confection, be prepared for the relatively light texture and the malty taste, which some people find less sweet than other chocolate products, and this is entirely intentional as the malt provides a subtle flavour depth rather than pure sugar sweetness.

How should you store this pack after opening to maintain freshness for as long as possible?

The best storage method is to keep the pack in its original cardboard box and plastic inner bag, sealed as tightly as possible, placed in a cupboard or drawer that remains cool and dry throughout the day and night without exposure to direct sunlight or artificial heat from appliances like ovens or heaters. Avoid storing the pack in the refrigerator or freezer, as the moisture and temperature changes can cause the chocolate coating to develop bloom, a whitish coating that affects appearance and texture, and the malt centre can absorb moisture which makes the balls softer and less crisp than intended.

If you have opened the pack and wish to keep some for later, fold the inner plastic bag carefully and secure it with a clip or by tying it, then place the sealed bag back into the box and store it in your coolest, driest cupboard away from any foods with strong odours that could be absorbed by the chocolate, and under these conditions the balls will maintain reasonable quality for approximately ten to fourteen days after opening, though they will gradually lose their crispness as time passes.

Are there any people who should avoid eating these malt balls for any reason?

Maltesers contain milk chocolate and malt, so anyone with a diagnosed allergy to milk, cocoa, or malt grains should not consume this product, and anyone with lactose intolerance should be aware that milk chocolate contains dairy and may experience digestive discomfort depending on the severity of their condition. The product is not suitable for young children who are still learning to chew properly, as the small round shape and relatively firm texture present a choking risk, and children should be supervised by an adult when eating any small spherical food items.

People following specific dietary restrictions such as vegan diets will find this product unsuitable because it contains milk chocolate, and those with severe nut allergies should confirm with the manufacturer's information on the pack that there is no risk of cross-contamination during the manufacturing process in the factory where these balls are made.

What can you expect regarding delivery time and how does the price shown on this page work?
