Top 5 Benefits of Nestle Cerelac for Bangladesh Babies
Nestle Cerelac is the most trusted first solid food for babies in Bangladesh. Introduced at 6 months alongside breastfeeding or formula, Cerelac provides essential nutrients that breast milk or formula alone can no longer fully supply at this stage. Here are the top 5 science-backed benefits.
1. Prevents Iron Deficiency Anaemia
Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional problem in Bangladeshi babies. A 2022 Bangladesh National Micronutrient Survey found that over 70% of children under 5 have some degree of anaemia.
Nestle Cerelac is fortified with 6.7mg iron per 100g — providing a significant portion of a baby's daily iron needs (7.7mg/day for 7-12 month infants). Iron supports:
- Red blood cell production
- Oxygen transport to the brain
- Cognitive development and concentration
- Immune system function
2. Supports Brain Development
The first two years of life are the most critical period for brain development. Cerelac contains:
- Iron: Critical for myelination (brain nerve insulation)
- Zinc: Supports neurotransmitter function
- Iodine: Thyroid-dependent brain development
- B vitamins (B6, B12, folate): Neural development
3. Introduces Dietary Variety
Cerelac comes in multiple fruit and grain flavours — Mixed Fruits & Wheat, Honey & Wheat, Mango, Banana. Exposing babies to diverse flavours early (7-12 months) is scientifically linked to reduced picky eating behaviour in toddlerhood.
4. Easy to Prepare and Digest
Cerelac's pre-cooked, partially hydrolysed grain formula means it dissolves quickly in warm water and is easier to digest than home-cooked rice. For busy Bangladesh families, this convenience is a major advantage — a balanced meal in 2 minutes.
5. Fills the Nutritional Gap Between Milk and Solids
At 6 months, breast milk and formula alone cannot supply enough iron, zinc, and energy for rapidly growing babies. Cerelac bridges this gap as a nutrient-dense complementary food.
