Installing a Conical Hanging Mosquito Net
A hanging conical mosquito net is the most popular style in Bangladesh. Here is a complete installation guide for any home or apartment.
What You Need
- Conical mosquito net
- One ceiling hook (screw-in type)
- Rope or nylon string (30-50cm)
- Screwdriver or drill
Step-by-Step Installation
- Measure the centre point above your bed
- Screw the hook into the ceiling at that point (into a joist if possible)
- Tie the provided rope through the loop at the top of the net
- Hang the net from the hook ensuring it hangs evenly all around the bed
- Spread the net so the base covers the entire mattress with 30cm excess on each side
- Tuck the excess under the mattress all the way around
- Check for gaps and ensure the base is fully sealed
Tips for Rental Apartments
If drilling is not allowed use a tension rod between walls or use a command hook (rated 2kg+) with repositionable adhesive. Many Bangladeshi apartments have pre-installed ceiling hooks.
Frequently Asked Questions
How high should the hook be for a mosquito net?
The hook should be at the highest point directly above the centre of the bed. The net should hang 20-30cm below the ceiling.
Can I install a mosquito net without drilling?
Yes. Use a strong adhesive ceiling hook (command strips rated 2kg+) for apartments. They are available at hardware shops in Dhaka.
How do I stop the net from falling during the night?
Make sure the base is fully tucked under the mattress all the way around. Do not just tuck the sides — tuck all four edges including the head and foot.
